Obituary of James Hill

James (Jim) Eugene Hill, 82, died in Springfield, Missouri on October 13, 2010 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Jim was born December 22, 1927 in Zion, Illinois, to Lincoln Austin Hill and Lillie Catherine (Richards) Hill. Jim served in the Merchant Marines as a cook's assistant. He lived in Zion and worked at Ammaco until retiring. Jim attended Church on the Rock until his health prevented him from attending. Jim will be especially remembered for being a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim loved helping people and he and Lola volunteered at Wycliffe Bible Translators in Texas for several years after their retirement. Jim loved the Lord and always desired to please Him. Survivors include his wife Lola of Springfield; daughter and son-in-law Jenise and Scott Handyside of Zion, Illinois and their three children Zach, Tommy and Olivia. In addition, he is survived by a brother Austin Hill and his wife Mary. He is also survived by three stepchildren George Stanfield of Springfield, Missouri, Robert Stanfield and his wife Yvonne of Marshfield, Missouri, Joyce Bailey and her husband Don of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren Christopher Stanfield, Micha Stanfield and his wife Audrey, David Stanfield, Carrien Nelson and her husband John, Bill Stanfield, Melissa Mortensen and her husband Ronny, Jeremy Baily, Jason Bailey and his wife Cara, and four great grandchildren Mackenzie and Tyler Mortensen and Noah and Kadie Stanfield. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Janet, sisters Miriam Martin and Carol Bartlett; and brothers George, Leland, and Leroy. The family wishes to thank the staff at Magnolia Square and Season's Hospice, and Dr. Randall Halley for their excellent care of Jim in his last months of life. Services were held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Church on the Rock, 2323 W Grand, Springfield, Missouri, and again on Monday, October 18th at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Interment was at Mount Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
