Clayton Rutledge, 80, of Zion, Illinois, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, Illinois.
Clayton was born to Vernon and Lucille Rutledge on February 9, 1930 in Mason City, Iowa and moved to Berwyn, Illinois with his family when he was in high school, graduating from Morton High School and received his Associate Degree from Morton Junior College in Berwyn. He lived for a short time in Forest Park, Oregon before moving to Zion in 1963. Clayton worked at Tippet Inc. in Waukegan from 1963 until 1995 when he opened and operated Carol Hardware in Waukegan from 1995 until 2004. He was a longtime member of Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667. Clayton was an avid Chicago Bears fan and he enjoyed vacationing in Bar Harbor, Maine.
He is survived by his two sons, Roy Rutledge of Zion and Randy Rutledge of Waukegan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 1997; his son, Ray in 1986; two sisters; and his parents.
Visitation will be Monday, November 8, 2010, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m., Pastor Tim Knight officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, November 9th, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
