Obituary of Avis Galgan

Avis I. Galgan, January 31, 1923 - February 4, 2011; a 1958 resident of Newport Town, Wadsworth, IL departed from her loved ones February 4, 2011 for the trip to her heavenly home in answer to her prayers and ultimate goal in life. Avis was the proud Mother of four children: Bruce (Karen) Galgan, Richard (Sandy) Galgan, Reverend Dr. Raleigh (Mary) Galgan and Delana (Gregory) Hardacre; ten grandchildren and twenty four great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband L. Michael Galgan. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Avis was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Zion, IL, a member & officer of Lake County Farm Bureau Women's group - lobbied Senator McClory in Washington, DC for the Farm Bureau, former member & officer of Newport Civic Assoc., Warren Garden Club, Phyllis Schafley Eagle Form, Cub, and the Waukegan Senior Center Bridge group. Avis enjoyed friends, family, neighbors and people in general. She enjoyed life on the farm - her gardening, tree and flower planting as well as maintaining the home and family needs. She felt assured that God would give her the strength and ability to carry out all the duties He had given her before He took her home. With her children & husband having been by her bed side, God released her from her earthly calling in life & His Holy Spirit escorted into the presence of Jesus in the early morning of Feb 4, 2011 with the hopeful greeting of, "Well done good & faithful servant!" Family & Friends are invited for a viewing Thursday Feb 10th 10-11 AM at the church followed by Funeral Service to celebrate Avis's life at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1800 23rd St., Zion, IL. Immediately following the Funeral Service all are invited to remain for a luncheon hosted by the Family & prepared by the OSLC Ladies Guild of which Avis was a Member for 60 years.
