Obituary of Roy Pumala

Pumala, Roy M. 84, of Zion, IL, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at home. Roy was born April 5, 1927, in Ironwood, MI. He graduated from high school in Ironwood and then went on to serve with the United States Navy at the end of World War II. Roy married Marlone Mericle on June 16, 1950, in Waukegan. He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion where he served as an usher and loved to participate in Bible Studies. Working as a Tool and Die Maker for more than 50 years, Roy retired from A.L. Hansen Manufacturing. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Roy deeply loved his wife and entire family. He loved sports in general and enjoyed playing golf. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marlone; children, Brian (Joann) Pumala of Zion, Dale (Deb) Pumala of Zion, and Karen (Marty) Goldman of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Kari (Mike) Cowart, Skip (Liz) Pumala, Keith (fiancé, Kim Fields) Olsen, Kyle Olsen, and Chris (Dani) Pumala; six great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Thiele of Schaumburg, IL; brother, Raymond (Marge) Pumala of Grandview, WI; sister, Kathy (Bill) Palmer of Hoffman Estates, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Oscar and Esther Pumala. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at l1:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Rev. Kwadwo Ntim, officiating. Visitation will be Monday, October 24, 2011, from 5:00­8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Memorial donations are suggested to Memorial United Methodist Church.
