Obituary of Benjamin McCormick

Benjamin "Ben" David McCormick, 75, of Beach Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at home after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was bom September 15, 1935, in Zion, IL, to his parents Christopher Benjamin and Mildred Josephine (Howard) McCormick. He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1953. Ben served in the United States Marine Corps from January 7, 1957, to January 6, 1960. He was married August 5, 1961 to Anna Belle (Ann) Garrison of Waukegan, IL, (formerly of Harrisburg, IL) on August 5, 1961 at Lakeshore Tabernacle in Kenosha, WI. Ben retired from Cub Foods of Waukegan, IL, in September of 1997. He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Denise Lynn Prueitt of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Sherie Beth (Jerry) McPherson of Beach Park, IL, and Gina Marie Adams (Jim Ochoa) of Pleasant Prairie, WI; grandsons, Tyler Benjamin (Alina) Roberts of Buffalo Grove, IL, Reece Marshall Prueitt, Trevor Michael Prueitt and Kellin Austin Prueitt all of Wadsworth, IL; Garrett Michael McPherson and Brian Anthony McPherson of Beach Park, IL; granddaughters, Ericka Ryan Adams (Michael Sigafus) of Waukegan, Tawny Marie Ochoa and Corey Lynn Ochoa of Pleasant Prairie, WI; great-grandsons, Nathan Alexander Roberts of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Kaine Michael Sigafus of Waukegan, IL; brother, George Daniel (Fran) McCormick of Winthrop Harbor, IL; and sister, Josephine Mae (Josie) Haile of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Christopher Benjamin, May 26, 1956; mother, Mildred Josephine, September 10, 2002; brother, Duane Levern McCormick, May 2, 2003; sisters, Margaret Ann (Peggy) McCormick, November 12, 1941, Mary Louise McKay, January 1, 1984, and Katherine Mildred (Kathy) Carlson, June 14, 1998. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Star Hospice, Waukegan, IL.
