Obituary of Donald Brune

Donald "Donnie" Brune, 87, a Zion, IL, resident all of his life, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, surrounded by his family, at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion. Donnie was born July 25, 1923, in Zion, and was a graduate of Zion Benton Township High School where he played basketball. He married Joann MacGregor on September 30, 1950, at the former Christian Catholic Church in Zion. He was a member of the current Christ Community Church in Zion where he trumpeted with the church's concert band and enjoyed working with the youth. Donnie was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Coast Guard onboard the Joseph T. Dickman where he was a gunner and played reveille and taps for the crew on his trumpet. His primary employment was as a civil servant at the Great Lakes Naval Base. (where he retired) He also served as a constable for the City of Zion. Donnie was a member of the Zion American Legion and also the Waukegan Federation of Musicians #284. He was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joann; daughter, LuAnn (Scotty) Conley of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Melanie (Tony) Pusateri of Coppell, TX, and Rebekah Conley of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren, Addison and Ava Pusateri; sisters, Marceil Keller of Round Lake Beach, IL, and Joan Wray of Danville, VA; and nieces and nephews and other family. Donnie was preceded in death by his father and mother, Conrad and Leona Brune; one brother and three sisters. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to the Camp Zion Ministry of the Christ Community Church.
