Donald Larson

1934 — June 16, 2011

Donald E. "Donnie" Larson, 77, a lifelong resident of Zion, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011. Donnie was born May 19, 1934, in Zion, to his late parents, Tilden and Helen Larson. He was formerly employed by Johns-Manville in Waukegan; former owner of Larson's Standard and Larson's Freeway, co-owner of Larson's Car Wash; and later working for NAPA Auto Parts and Northwest Automotive, all located in Zion. Donnie was one of the original founders of Zion Civil Defense (presently ESDA). Also, Donnie and his brother Roger were an integral part of the addition of the Carillon for the City of Zion, where they were awarded a plaque of commendation and key to the City. An extremely patriotic man, his love for this country and the City of Zion was beyond measure. He also had a passion for roller skating, trap shooting, and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Ellis, son, Jeff Larson, both of Zion; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Amy, Jeremy, Bryan, Jenine, Megan, and Kaitlyn; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Larson of Zion; former spouse, caregiver, and best friend, Kitty Larson of Zion; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Susan Larson; and several aunts and uncles. Per Donnies request, there will be a private memorial service held for immediate family only. He was loved by many, and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org or P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718
