Harold J. Roberts, 73, of Gurnee, IL, died on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Highland Park Hospital.
Harold was born January 5, 1938 in Urbana, IL. Following high school he joined and served in the United States Navy. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Harold served in law enforcement in Ohio before moving to Zion in 1965 where he served on the Waukegan Police Department from 1967 until 1969. He then joined the U.S. Marshall Service and served as a Deputy U.S. Marshall, retiring in 1993. Harold gained the knowledge of Morse Code while serving in the Navy which he used in his hobby as a Ham Radio Operator. He was also an avid sports fan and a track star in high school.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Catherine; sons Joshua of MI and Eric of WI; daughters Patricia of IL, Sarah of GA, and Tammy Kaye of IL: and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma B. Lee and Corcelia Roberts; and his parents, Alfred Roberts and Marion Usher.
Funeral services were private for the family. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. If you wish, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
