Obituary of Marion Humphrey

Marion Humphrey, 95, of Beach Park, IL, and formerly a life long resident of Zion, IL, died on Sunday, July 17, 2011 in her sleep. She was born January 17, 1916, in Kenosha, WI, and graduated from Waukegan High School in 1932. Marion married her late husband, Edward Humphrey on July 17, 1936, in Chicago, IL. She was a member of Christ Community Church in Zion. Her employment history began at the Great Lakes Naval Base where she worked as a secretary, and concluded with her retirement in 1985, after 29 years as Food Services Director for the Zion Elementary School District. She introduced the first Hot Lunch Program into the District. Marion was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed swimming with her Aquasize Swimming Group in Kenosha, WI, and had a deep love of all her pets. Survivors include her daughter, Laurie (Andy) Cvengros of Beach Park, IL; son, George (Linda) Humphrey of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren, Mary Jo McDonald of Beach Park, IL, Terry (Annette) Cvengros of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Dr. Joseph (Melissa) Humphrey of Grand Rapids, MI, and Sarah Humphrey of Winthrop Harbor, IL; great-grandchildren, Justin McDonald, Deliah Cvengros, Seiree Cvengros, Aaron Cvengros, and Nathanael and Matthew Humphrey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Humphrey in 2001; and foster brothers, Edward, Marty, and Dick Shultis. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
