Obituary of Michael Lowy

Michael "Mickey" Lowy, 56, of Winthrop Harbor, IL died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at home with his family by his side. He was born July 3, 1955 in Waukegan, IL. He was a graduate of Waukegan High School and in 1979 he graduated from Milwaukee School Of Engineering, the top of his class. The same month he graduated he was hired by Abbott Labs and worked there until 2009. He was currently employed by Hospira. Over the years of employment he received many awards for his technological developments. In 2009 Michael received a patent for developing and designing an ultra violet sterilizer for intravenous products for abbotts. He called his new invention "Bright Star". Michael married Genny Olivarez on August 30, 1980 in Waukegan. They met while both were performing as high wire aerialists. Michael and his father together coached little league for many years in the area and when his sons went to High School he volunteered on the wrestling team. Michael loved his Canadian fishing trips, the last one being just two weeks ago. He also enjoyed traveling Europe with his wife for both work and pleasure. Other interests included spending time with his family jet skiing, boating and wind surfing at his home in Wisconsin, and riding and racing motorcycles. Michael was also an avid Chicago Bears fan. Survivors include his loving wife Genny; two sons Jeff and Shawn Lowy; his father Louis Lowy; and one sister Jill Lowy; He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Gayle Belzer-Lowy in 1993; grandfather Joseph Henry Lowy; and grandmother Bella Lowy. Visitation will be Monday, July 25, 20011 begining at 3:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. all at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion, Pastor Kwadwo Ntim, officiating.
