Kenneth Crosswhite

1935 — August 24, 2011

Kenneth Eugene Crosswhite, 76, went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2011. Born on July 13, 1935 in Russellville, Alabama, he was the third of six children in the loving home of James and Thelma Crosswhite. He spent his youth and early adulthood in Alabama, where he met and married the love of his life, Lillie Mae Thornton. They moved to Zion, Illinois in 1961, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Ken worked and retired from Johns Manville as a machinist. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and walk the woods. He also enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour books, watching westerns, especially John Wayne, and loved Elvis. But most of all, he loved people, and he never met a person that he couldn't find something to talk about. Ken is survived by his wife of 50 years, son John (Laura) Crosswhite, daughter Elizabeth (David) Archibald, and grandchildren Ryan and Aaron Archibald, Katy, Adam and Meg Crosswhite. Also brothers Reverend Bobby (Judy) Crosswhite and Charles (Margaret) Crosswhite and loving nieces, nephews and cherished friends Junior McCarley and John Love. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene and Frank Crosswhite and sister Betty Chapin. Very recently by his beloved nephew Keith Crosswhite and childhood friend William Nelson. A very special thank you for the loving care provided by the ICU staff at Vista East during his most recent illness. Also for the many years of care and support from Dr. Dunlop. Visitation will be Sunday, August 28, 2011, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Hanners, Rev. John Love and Rev. Bobby Crosswhite officiating. Cemetery committal services will be held on Monday, August 29th, at 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
