Obituary of Robert Gornik

Robert "Bob" Gornik, 62, born November 23, 1953, in Waukegan, IL, passed away peacefully and joined our Lord on Friday, December 18, 2015. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend who embraced his family and life with great enthusiasm and laughter. Family, faith, and friends were everything to him. Bob was a member of the Teamster's Local 301 Union, and he retired in 2010 after working 31 years at Meyer Material Company. He was a devout Christian who enjoyed volunteering at his church and delivering Meals on Wheels with his wife. You could always find Bob working on a car in his garage, cruising in his boat with family and friends on the Chain of Lakes, or reading the Bible. In his final days, after a 19-month battle against leukemia, Bob was surrounded by his family and closest friends who shared stories, tears, hugs, and laughs until the very end. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Ludwig Gornik. Bob will be fondly remembered by the love of his life and wife of 20 years, Diana (nee Johnson); his daughters, Jennifer (Daniel) Corcoran, Lisa Gornik, and Jessica Gornik; his stepsons, Jason Wild and Jamie (Michelle) Wild; his siblings, Mary Carmody, Raymond (Kathy) Gornik, and Andrianne Gornik; and his grandchildren, Jakob, John, Benjamin, Ethan, Natalie, and Melody. We will all remember Bob as a man with a big smile, a big laugh, and a bigger heart. Visitation: Tuesday, December 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL. Funeral: Wednesday, December 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeview Church, 1821 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1436 Kenosha Rd, Zion, IL.
