Obituary of Robert Prather

Robert "Bob" Prather, 85, of Waukegan, IL, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at home. Bob was born July 1, 1927, in Portsmouth, Ohio, and married Dorothy Irene Zornes on September 2, 1949, in Portsmouth. He retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Yeoman, worked for the U.S. Postal Service for two years, and then finally worked in Civil Service at Great Lakes Naval Base with the SeaBees as a Personnel Manager for about fifteen years. He was a member of the Lake County Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve. Bob loved to golf and was a good "Handy-Man". Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Irene; son, Michael Prather of Gaithersburg, MD; daughter, Karen Jackson of Columbus, OH: grandchildren, Eric and Kristen Jackson; nieces and nephews and other family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bryson Prather; and sister, Velma White. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Pastor Ralph Warren of the Lake County Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be Friday, September 7, 2012, in Wheelersburg, OH.
