Betty Chess

1931 — September 10, 2012

Betty Joy Chess, nee Robbins, of Kenosha, WI, left this earth peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2012. Betty was born April 20, 1931, in Park Falls, WI. She attended college in Eau Claire, WI. Betty met her soul mate, Joseph Chess from North Chicago, IL, at a Pike Lake resort where she was working. They married in March of 1951 and celebrated 51 years of marriage. Betty and Joe resided in Winthrop Harbor, IL, for many years until Betty retired from Abbott Laboratories. She was an active member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park and was involved in many of the ministries over the years. Betty was president of her local AARP chapter in Zion. She enjoyed dancing and golfing with her "Joey", was an avid reader and crafter, and enjoyed many trips to Colorado, Arizona and Wisconsin to visit with her family. Betty was always remembered for her kind and loving manner. She had a gentle spirit that touched many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Betty is survived by 5 children, Marilyn (Ronald) Walker, James (Caren) Chess, Robert (Linda) Chess, Jo Anne (Michael) Moore, and Ronald (Eva) Chess; 11 grandchildren, Jesse (Amy) Moore, Jeremy (Socorro) Glauner, Natalie Baum, John (Amy) Chess, Aaron Glauner, Michael Chess, Kelly Moore, Alicia Chess, Sarah Chess, Valerie Chess, and Pearl Chess; five great-grandchildren, Cierra, Jacob, Anisa, Olivia, and Rylie; brother, Stanley (Jacqueline) Robbins of Champion, MI; sister-in-law, Veronica Robbins of Pueblo West, CO; and many nieces and nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Robbins and Velma Larson Robbins; her husband, Joseph P. Chess; sister, Doris Zwicke; brother, Ronald Robbins; and one infant son. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 pm. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Memorial donation are suggested to Our Lady of Humility Church.
