Roland E. Torkelson, 79, of Zion, IL died on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, IL.
Roland was born March 27, 1938 in Tomahawk, WI. He moved to Waukegan in 1953 and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1956. He retired from OMC, Waukegan, after more than 40 years. Roland enjoyed playing the slots and being with his family. He served in the United States Marine Reserves and he was past commander of the Waukegan Detachment, Marine Corps League.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Kathleen (nee Kutzler) Torkelson; two daughters Donna Torkelson of Zion, IL and Linda (Ken) Brobeck of Emerald Hills, CA; five grandchildren Brittany, Juan, Monique, and Jonathan Torkelson and Nicholas Brobeck; one great-grandchild Dalton Torkelson; one sister Joan (Gary) Knuth of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; two sisters-in-law Betty Torkelson of Pleasant Prairie, WI and Joan DeReu of Hobart, IN; and many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle “Chum”.
He was preceded in death by his father Adolph and mother Marion (Kopelke) Torkelson; sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Sid Williams; brother Richard Torkelson; and brother-in-law Gene DeReu.
Services will be private for the immediate family. Memorial donations may be made to Kennedy’s Disease Association (KDA).
