Clifford James “Jim” Wynn, 88, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Vista Medical Center East. H
e was born on June 16, 1929 in Waukegan IL and was a lifelong area resident. H
e went through Beach Park Schools and graduated from Zion Benton Township High School, class of 1947.
After graduating from trade school, he was employed as a machinist at American Can Company. In 1950, he joined the Navy and was a Machine Repairman, third class during the Korean conflict. He served aboard the USS Higbee and USS McCoy Reynolds. After the war, he was employed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center as the shops manager at the Naval Electronics Systems Command (NAVALEXCOM); and a production controller at the Navy Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). He retired in January 1985 after 32 years of dedicated service. J
im married the former Doris Schwartz on August 30, 1958 at First United Methodist Church in Waukegan IL. They had 46 wonderful years together until her death on April 17, 2005.
He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was secretary-treasurer of the Grand Bowl Booster and Grand Bowl Mixed Leagues for over 30 years. He was in the National Golf League at Great Lakes for many years. He was also a very proud and sometimes frustrated Chicago Bears fan.
He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) association and AARP. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waukegan.
He is survived by his son; Michael, granddaughter; Monica (Thomas) Laughton, two great granddaughters; Kylie and Elizabeth, and nieces; Rae (Rick) Richardson and Julie Richardson.
He is preceded in death by his wife; Doris (Schwartz), his parents; LeRoy and Thelma (Tompkins) Wynn, and a nephew Mark Schwartz.
A visitation will be held at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL on Thursday August 31st from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories Cemetery in North Chicago, with military honors.
