Obituary of Leonard G. Clark

Leonard G. Clark Jr., 69, loving husband of Delfina Clark for 18 years, crossed the bridge to eternal peace on Thursday, October 5, 2017 after a lengthy illness and was surrounded by his family.  Delfina and Leonard were married on February 20, 1999.

He was born March 2, 1948 in Waukegan, IL to the late Leonard G. Clark Sr. and survived by his mother, Ingeborg D. Clark, 88.  He graduated from Antioch High School, Antioch IL in 1967 and was drafted into the Army and served several years, serving most of his time in Viet Nam.  Leonard was very proud to serve his country and was very proud of the American flag and those that served our country and for those that are serving our country today.

He was the proud father of seven children.  Christine (Jay) Applehans of Ingleside IL, Julie (Thomas)  Friedle of Round Lake IL, Patti Pauley of Columbia KY, Leonard (Crystal) G. Clark III of Coeur D’Alene ID, Lori Miller of Round Lake IL, Javier (Dali) Morales of Gurnee, IL and Eric Clark of Zion, IL.

Leonard is survived by his 14 grandchildren: twins Bentley and Dayton Morales, Steven (Nikki) Friedle, Zackery Applehans, Lucas (Morgan) Friedle, Jacob Applehans, Aaron (Arianne) Pauley, Hailey (Andrew) Keil, Austin Pauley, Sophie Friedle, Nathan Clark, Joseph Rix, Payton Rix, and Amelia Miller.   He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, James Friedle, Braelynn Friedle, Noah Pauley, Delia Keil, and Hazel Friedle.

Leonard is survived by two sisters, Virginia Graham of St. Petersburg FL and Katherine Marie (Gerald) Beard Abrams WI and one brother James R. Clark of Crivitz, WI.  Leonard is also survived by his nieces, Laura (Brian) Dresen, Virginia Beach VA, Tammy E. Hamilton of Chicago IL, Robyn (Charles) Clark of Lindenhurst IL, Lynn (Dan) Waskosky of Columbia KY, and by his nephews Bradley (Ann) Miller of Lake Villa IL, Roy Allen of Bradenton FL, Thomas (Sarah) Clark of Crivitz WI.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Jessica, Isabella, Jamie, Michaela, Lauren, Christian, Skyler, Kyle, Bradley JR, Jeffrey and by his cousins Michael (Debbie) Clark of Bristol WI, Timothy Clark of Minneapolis, MN, Brian Baartz of Waukegan IL, and also by his Godparents/aunt and uncle Anne and Arthur Clark of Bristol WI and an aunt Emily Baartz of Waukegan, IL. He was preceded in death by his nephews, James R. Kaatz of Little Rock AR and Michael Clark of Round Lake IL and his cousin, Taylor Clark of Bristol WI.

Leonard developed an interest in woodworking Intarsia and made several pictures out of wood by hand shaping the wooden pieces.  He also had a passion for working in his yard cutting grass and planting flowers and outdoor cooking along with several other hobbies which he developed after retiring and after buying a home 3 years ago in Zion IL.

Leonard also enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner for his relatives and friends.  He was well known for his expertise in making scalloped potatoes for the dinner.  Leonard was gifted in technology and would set up high tech equipment in his home and help others to set up their own home and as a machinist for many years.  He loved teasing his sister Katherine and placing bets with her when the Bears played the Green Bay Packers.  He loved cooking and serving special dinners for his family and friends and they loved gathering at his home not only for his delicious cooking, but for his laughter and jokes at every special festivity.  Leonard accomplished many things during his lifetime but his biggest accomplishment was the meaning of love.

Visitation will be on October 11, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the Most Blessed Trinity Parish, Holy Family Site, 450 Keller Ave, Waukegan IL and services to follow.  The family has requested that no photos or videos of any kind (whether by camera or cell phone) be taken at the church service or at Highland Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum, 33100 Hunt Club Rd, Libertyville, IL.  Procession will immediately follow after the church service.  Eulogies will be given by his son, Javier Morales and his sister, Katherine Beard at the Highland Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum.  At the request of his grieving wife, lunches will not be served as she wishes to return to their home for rest and peace. 

Leonard’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Rhonda Chambers of the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion IL and for Jim of Highland Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum, 33100 Hunt Club Rd, Libertyville IL for not only their professionalism in helping the family arrange services for our beloved, but especially for their help and understanding at a time so confusing and painful.  They took the burden upon themselves to help make this time of grieving easier for all of us.
