Robert J. Ostermiller, 89, of Pleasant Prairie passed away November 17, 2017 at home.

Bob was born on July 7, 1928 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois to Joseph and Antoinette (Broeker) Ostermiller.  He attended St. Francis Elementary School and Notre Dame High School in Quincy.  He was an army veteran serving in Korea in the 24th Infantry Division, from 1950-1952 attaining the rank of Sergeant and discharged in 1952.  He married Pauline Fetter in St. Francis Catholic Church on September 4, 1954 and they had 63 happy years together.

He was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company in Quincy, Waukegan and Vernon Hills, Illinois as advertising and sales manager for 40 years retiring in 1988.  He was a loyal member of the Waukegan Elks Lodge No. 702 for 47 years and held the titles of Exalted Ruler of the Lodge, Vice President and Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the North District of Elks of Illinois.  He was Secretary of Lodge No. 702 for 14 years as well as Chairman and serving on numerous committees.

He and his family were charter members of the St. Dismas Catholic Church being an active member of the Men’s Club of the Church.  He also belonged to the AARP and was a former member of the American Legion, Waukegan Glee Club and Norstates Ambassador Club.  Bob loved to travel and he and his wife Pauline took numerous trips seeing the United States that they never had a chance to see in their younger days.  Bob loved to decorate his home, inside and out, for the holidays, especially Christmas, and received many praises for his labor of love.

Bob is survived by his wife, Pauline of 63 years, one son, Gary and his wife Cheryl of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, one daughter, Paula Niemann and her husband, Richard of Mundelein, Illinois, two granddaughters Alexis and Katelyn  Niemann, of Mundelein many nephews and nieces, one step-grandson, Jeff Auger his significant other Katie Congdon; one step great grandson Lenox Micha Auger, great-nephews and great-nieces and many friends and neighbors in Waukegan and of the Quincy, Illinois area,

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Raymond, Virgil, Eugene and Donald, one sister, Mary Ann Ostermiller, sisters-in-law Beryle Ostermiller, Ruthe Ostermiller, Margie Ostermiller and Fern Ostermiller, two nephews, Michael Ostermiller and William Fetter, nieces Susan Porche, and Joyce Geschwandner, one great niece Michelle Geshwandner and several uncles and aunts.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 9:00 – 10:30 am at St. Dismas Church,  2600 Sunset Avenue in Waukegan, Illinois. A celebration of his life will be held immediately following  the visitation at the St. Dismas Catholic Church in Waukegan.  Burial will follow at the Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, Illinois.   In lieu of flowers, it is requested you make a donation to a charity of your choice or St. Dismas Church. The family wish to thank the staff of the Addison of Pleasant Prairie WI., and the Aurora Health at Home Hospice group and their staff for the tender care they provided.
