Obituary of Sharon Lynn Gillings

Sharon Lynn Gillings passed away on June 10, 2018 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Sharon was born to Silas and Helen Dreyer on April 4, 1942. Sharon grew up in Zion, Illinois and graduated from Zion Benton Township Highschool.

On February 10, 1962 she married Robert (“Bob”) Edwin Gillings at the Christian Catholic Church in Zion. Bob and Sharon were married for 56 years at the time of her passing. On April 22, 1971, Sharon’s daughter, Traci, was born.

In retirement, Sharon and her husband traveled to many places including Florida, Las Vegas, the Caribbean and Hawaii.

Sharon leaves behind her husband, Robert; her daughter Traci (Ryan), grandchildren, Tyler and Riley; her brother Richard (Jeanne) Dreyer and his children and grandchildren; her sister Shirley (Stan) Ten Cate and her children and grandchildren; her late brother Robert’s wife Virginia, and his children and grandchildren. Sharon is preceded in death by her father and mother Silas and Helen Dreyer, and her brother Robert Dreyer (Virginia).

Sharon was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She will be remembered for being a kind and sweet soul; a prepared, organized, protective and caring mother; and a wife, sister, mom and friend with just the cutest sense of humor.

Sharon Lynn Gillings will be dearly missed and very fondly remembered by her husband, daughter, son in law, grandson, granddaughter, brother, sister, and all of the many family members and friends that loved her – that is, until we see her again.

Visitation for Sharon will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099.
