Bert R. Peterson, age 79, entered his eternal home in heaven on August 30, 2018.
He was born in Mankato, Minnesota to Violet and Helmer Peterson. He graduated from Minnesota Bible College with a degree in Theology and became an ordained minister, pastoring churches in West Lima and Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin. Bert began his radio career at WISV, a local radio station in Viroqua, Wisconsin, as an announcer and salesman. While there, he met and married Beverly Dahl, and they were together for 56 years. They became proud parents of a son, Barron, and a daughter, Beth. Bert was extremely proud of them and their accomplishments in life, and he loved them with all his heart and soul.. Bert took great pride in his two grandsons, Braedon and Benjamin, sons of Barron and Jeannie, and he.enjoyed attending their school and sports activities.. Steve Lamoree, Bert’s son-in-law, was a special person in his life. Bert was so happy to be able to spend time with Steve and Beth at their home in Tucson, Arizona, and he always looked forward to his next visit to the desert. Bert loved his daughter-in-law Jeannie for her thoughtfulness in opening her home and heart to him, and for the unconditional love and support she gave him. Bert accomplished much in his life. He always dreamed of having his own radio station, and in 1977, WGLR and WAXL became a reality. Bert was also Midwest Sales Manager for Motor Trend Magazine for over 20 years, and for three years he worked at Amazon. Bert was a dreamer, selfless, sweet, generous, intelligent, social, and kind. He was at his happiest surrounded by family and friends, and he always looked forward to Sunday breakfasts with his dear friends of over 50 years, Jack and Shirley Powell. Bert felt very blessed to have the them in his life. Bert was thankful for the simple things in life, like jokes and laughter, coffee and conversations, and fall and football. Bert will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Barron (Jeannie), daughter Beth (Steve Lamoree), grandsons Braedon and Benjamin, and brothers Robert, Marlin, and Virgil.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Helmer, sister Mary,and brother Helmer, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held at Congdon’s Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, Illinois, on Thursday, September 6, 2018. Visitation will be from 12-1pm, and the service from 1-2pm.
