Cynthia I. Keister (nee Aul)
Cynthia Irene Keister of Beach Park, Illinois, passed away on August 7, 2018 with her family and best friends at her side. Cindy was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, attended Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois and received her Master’s Degree from Carthage College in Wisconsin. Cindy married her high school sweetheart, James Keister, and was the proud mother of sons James and Kevin. She is survived by her sons, James W. Keister and Kevin M. Keister, her aunt Beatrice Faux, cousins Sally Chontos and Ray Black, Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Aul and father, Addison Aul. Cindy’s husband, Jim, died shortly after her own death on August 24, 2018.
Cindy taught in the Waukegan school district for over 30 years specializing in children with learning disabilities. She spent most of her career at Oakdale Elementary School and will be remembered for her dedication to her students and her quick wit. She was an avid golfer for many years, and enjoyed traveling abroad with family and friends, visiting over 30 countries during her travels, noting Switzerland, Germany and Italy as her favorites.
Cindy proudly served on the church council of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held for Cindy and her husband Jim, who also passed away in August, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waukegan, Illinois on Saturday, October 6, at 2:00 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or C.O.O.L Food Pantry in Waukegan, Illinois.
