Obituary of Jane Gedvilas

Gedvilas, Martha J. “Jane”, 72, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 unexpectedly at her home. Jane was born on April 5, 1946 in Tahlequah, OK., to OJ and Ruby Cook. She attended schools in Cupertino, CA. In 1977, Jane married her soulmate, Robert “Bob” Gedvilas, together they lived in Beach Park for 20 years, later moving to Winthrop Harbor. She was employed for many years in retail management, then transitioned into the travel industry where she was owner of Stonehenge Travel. She ultimately retired from Tour Crafters, where she specialized in providing custom tours. Jane’s passion was fostering dogs for Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue, helping at least 30 dogs during her 12 years with them. She volunteered her time with fundraisers, pet clinics, and transporting animals. She was an avid traveler, visiting over 40 countries by air and sea. Most of all, she was a loving great grandma to Addison.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brothers, Allen (Patricia) Cook and Jim Cook. Her devoted daughter, Lisa (Richard) Domka; loving granddaughter, Rachel (Cliff McFarland) Domka; grandsons, Kyle and Miles Gonzalez; joy of her life great-granddaughter, Addison; beautiful sister in-law, Theresa (the late James) Schlosser; nieces and nephews; along with her 2 dogs Jenny and Peggy. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Gedvilas; and brother Kenneth Cook.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, from 10 to 11 am, with funeral service to follow at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099. Memorial contributions in Jane’s name can be made to Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue, PO Box 1421, Aurora, IL 60507.
