Obituary of Betty Ann Underwood

Betty Ann (Chambers) Underwood went home to be with her heavenly father on December 26, 2018. Betty was born April 7, 1940 to Robert Lacy and Elizabeth Chambers in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. 

Betty attended  Evanston Public Schools.  She was united in holy matrimony to the late Norman Underwood, Sr. on December 27, 1956. To this union, four children were born - Norman, Derek, Sherri and Terri.

Betty was employed by Avon Cosmetics and the Waukegan Public School district for many years.  She retired to become a full time grandmother. Betty was affectionately known as Mom, Grandma, Memaw and GG. Her grandchildren were the love of her life.

Betty enjoyed life to the fullest, she loved dancing, socializing, exercising, gardening and helping others.
 
Betty leaves to cherish her memory one son Norman Underwood, Jr. (Mike), Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; two daughters Sherri (James) Turner, Terri (Monty) Crooks of Zion, Illinois; five grandchildren, Terrence Crooks, Brandon (Elizabeth) Turner, Brittani (Robert) Emmons, Briana (Taylor) Schott and Dano Underwood; three great-grandchildren Tiaira, Taylen, and Tristin Crooks; sister Carron Wade; one daughter-in-law Karen Underwood; a devoted niece Sandra Adams, a devoted nephew Duane Adams and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sister Erma Sneed, husband Norman Underwood Sr., and son Derek Underwood.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Funeral Service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
