Obituary of Ethel L. Oakes Howard

Ethel Lucille Oakes Howard has gone to be with her Lord on April 29, 2019.

Ethel was born December 11, 1926 and married the love of her life, Orson Howard from Waukegan, IL on May 7, 1949.  Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Orson (2000), father and mother Harry S. and Nellie Oakes, and brother, Harry R. (Ruth) Oakes.  She leaves behind two daughters, Cathy (Richard) Alfano and Jill Howard Zwicke, grandchildren, Carrie Spanton, Aaron (Gina) Spanton and Lee Zwicke.  Ethel enjoyed one great-grandchild, Trace Spanton and 6 step-grandchildren and many close friends.

She attended Zion Parochial Schools, graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School, attended Jane McAlister School of Nursing where she earned her Registered Nursing Degree and interned at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

Ethel and Orson were lifetime members of Christian Catholic Church, Zion, IL. Ethel has had many duties through the years through the church as Sunday School Teachers, Zion Passion Play, Camp Zion (Nurse for many years throughout the summer), Communion, Welcome Center, Mother & Daughter and Father & Son Banquets, Vacation Bible School, Cards and Craft Circle, life member of the Zion Historical Society, life member of the American Legion Auxillary, Zion-Benton Unit and volunteerred for many other activities.

Ethel Howard was looking forward to re-uniting with her love, Orson in Heaven. She will be missed by all of us.

Private services for immediate family will be held at a later time.
