Mary Lee Glaspie, 96, was born February 28, 1923 to the late Ed and Elizabeth Smith in Calhoun City, MS as the 9th child. She transitioned to be in "God's bosom" at Vista Hospital on July 28, 2019.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bridges Chapel Church in Pittsboro, MS. She was united in marriage to the late James Glaspie, on May 18, 1943. Of their union they were blessed with three children. In 1957 Jamse and Mary relocated from Mississippi and made their home in Zion, IL where they opened the path for many family members who migrated from the south. She joined Ebenezer M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev Roosevelt Tart.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Gloria "Dena" (late Curtis) Massey of Bolingbrook, IL, Gloria "Dell" (George) Lewis of Waukegn, IL, Ruth ( son, late Jessie) Glaspie of Canton, MS. Eleven grandchilren, Janet (Joe) Butler, Tim Sanders, James (Olivia) Massey, Charles Harris, Damon Lewis, Terrance (Windy) Sanders, Jackie (Byron) Thompson, Bronica (Donald) Chambliss, Joy (Rodney) Singleton, Ryan Lewis and Kenny Lewis. Eleven Great Grandchildren, Jasmine Massey, Terrance Bond, Shameka Sanders, Lavelle Glaspie, Codi Bond, Sabrian Hyatt, Kenneth Fitzhugh Jr., Lakendis Glaspie, Jordain Harris, Marcellus Singleton II and Jordan Lewis. Acknowledging faithful nieces and nephew, Robbie Myers, Joann Glaspie, Martha Williams of Zion, IL, Charlie and Fannie Lyons of Dallas, TX, Addie Mae Jones of Vardaman, MS, Bessie Mae Mckinney of Skeston, MO, Clara Mae Shannon of Grand Rapids, MI, and a host of many great-great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She also leaves to cheris her "Mama" girls who provided special help and love, "her" Mary Coman, Charlotte Dowdell, Angie (Ed) Long, Ruby (Chester) Reed and Laura Washington and her dear friend, Madeline McIntosh.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, James Glaspie and son, Jessie Glaspie, eight sisiters and brothers, her Mother and Father, Elizabeth and Ed.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 3rd at 10am with service at 11am, Ebenezer M.B. Church, 3109 Gilead, Zion, IL 60099. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
