Juana Rivera

Obituary of Juana C. Rivera

Juana C. Rivera, 93, of Kenosha, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Juana was born on August 21, 1926, in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico to Adelaida and Fernando Cintron. Juana was the fifth born child of twelve born to proud, hardworking farmers that were true believers in education. She earned her certificate in shorthand and typing; and went on to retire from the Department of the United States Army in Ft. Sheridan, IL where she held a position of Clerical Entry Supply Clerk. She worked her way up to the position within years; as her language skills in English held her back, she still pushed ahead. From washing dishes to working in a laundry mat to help earn a living, alongside her spouse, the father of her children, they were able to purchase a home. She loved knitting, crocheting and especially cooking! Everyone loved her Puerto Rican rice, Pastelillos, steak, Caribbean style and more! Juana was a great gardener and loved flowers; basically anything she planted grew! Her hilarious sense of the things that she would ‘spout’ out and her actions left everyone laughing or perhaps upset. She had a lot of spunk and being very feisty is what kept her going! She will be missed tremendously, but we are well knowing you are now, ‘dancing and free from everything that held you down’. Until we meet again...love you! Juana is survived by her children, Lydia R. Rivera and Edwin M. Rivera; a host of loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Alejandro Cintron and Julia Marcela Hernandez; several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marla, Modesta, Gloria and Ana Elba; and brothers, Andres, Pedro, Luis and Juan Antonio (Tony) Fernando. Burial will be private for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Juana’s name, to a charity of choice.
