Obituary of Myrtle Grana

Myrtle Ruth Grana, 81, of Wakegan, died on Friday July 21, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 31, 1924 in Danville, Illinois, and married James V. Grana on November 5, 1948, in Waukegan. Myrtle was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, having served in Washington D.C. She retired from First Midwest Bank of Norh Chicago in 1986 and also worked for many years as a waitress at Louie's Restaurant in Waukegan and at the CPO Club at Great Lakes. Myrtle loved fishing, and enjoyed picking black raspberries, asparagus, and morel mushrooms. She also loved playing the loto and bingo and watching the Wheel of Fortune on Television. Survivors inclde her husband, James V. Grana; three children, Vincent (Claudia) Grana of San Jose, CA; Martin (Susan) Grana of Beach Park; and Michael (special friend Kelly) Grana of Waukegan; eight grandchildren, James Grana of San Jose, CA, David (Jenni) Grana of Reno, Nevada, Joseph (Tricia) Trana of Phoenix, AZ, Dana Lyn Grana of San Jose, CA, Jennifer (Wayne) Ruffley of Kissimmee, FL, Matthew (Jenny) Grana of New Berlin, WI, Megan Grana of Beach Park, and Joseph Grana of Waukegan. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and a close friend and niece, Betty Hedderly, and a wonderful caretaker, Carol Cole. She was preceded indeath by her father and mother, Ora Grant and Ruth Martin; one brother Cecil Martin; one sister Florence Trimble; one brother Hodge Marin, and a sister Violet Bradshaw. Visitation will be Monday, July 24, 2006, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Cheryl Esbrook of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion, officiating. Interment will be private for the family.
