Joan E. Martin, 90, of Waukegan, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at home surrounded by family.
Joan was born August 18, 1930, in Fountain County, IN to Joe and Gladys Bossaer. She was a graduate of Attica High School, class of 1948. On August 16, 1952, she married Don Martin in Attica. Joan attended St. Anastasia Church in Waukegan; she worked in the Waukegan area as a seamstress at Rorie’s, and held other positions with Waukegan Public Schools and Victory Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Anastasia Women’s Club, St. Anastasia Choir, where she was a soloist, International Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers (IBMC), and Waukegan Community Players.
Joan was a Girl Scout Leader and a sought after soloist in various Lake County organizations; she performed with her choir for a papal visit to Chicago. She sang with Sacred Choir of the Lakes and Elgin Choral Union. Joan enjoyed motorcycle riding, trips in her motor home, painting, sewing and working on her gardens. She was famous for her Tuesday Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Don Martin; children, Pat (Zach) Margetis, Ellen (Lynn) Gross, Greg Martin (Scott Lubert), Angela (John) Licari and Steve Martin; grandchildren, Ben Martin, Tim (Lauren) Martin, Melissa (Chris) Richardt, Dina Margetis, Olive Licari, Ryan (Shelley) Gross and Brandon (Whitney) Gross; great-grandchildren, Charles Martin, Ella Martin, Abby Gross, Aiden Gembola, Tyler Martin, Conner Martin, Cecilia Martin, Allison Richardt and Kaylin Richardt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Franklyn Bossaer and Charles Bossaer; son, Mike Martin and grandson, Joshua Martin.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 10:00a.m., St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan IL 60085. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
