Obituary of Kathy L. Feeney

Kathy Lee Feeney, 71, of Winthrop Harbor, passed away suddenly on October 21, 2020 at Vista Hospital, Waukegan, IL. Kathy was born on August 5, 1949 in Mesa, AZ to parents, Edna and Clifford “Pat” Patterson. Following graduation from Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix, she joined the U.S. Women’s Army Corps where she served honorably, attaining the rank of Specialist 5. In 1970, Kathy married Chuck Feeney, and his career in the U.S. Navy led them to live in many cities across the country, from Connecticut to Hawaii. Arriving in Waukegan in 1983, she began a rewarding career as a Department of the Navy civilian employee at the Personnel Support Detachment, and Personnel Support Activity which lasted 24 years. She is a 3-time recipient of the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal and was once nominated as the civilian employee of the year for the Chicago area. She was a strong supporter of canine rescue organizations, particularly the Lab Education and rescue Network (LEARN) from whom she rescued her best friends, Copper and Taz. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren. Her favorite times were “Jameson Tuesday” and “Sarah Wednesday” when she could spend time with her grandchildren each week. Kathy is survived by her husband of fifty years, Chuck; daughters, Cheryl Meadows and Jennifer (Jody) Williams; and grandchildren, Sarah and Jameson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Shirley Conner. A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at a later date.
