Obituary of Matthew W. Booth

Matthew William Booth “Boothie”, 42, of Winthrop Harbor, passed away on November 6, 2020 due to complications from COVID. Matt was born in Waukegan, IL to Timothy and Jeanne Booth on July 1, 1978. He graduated from Zion-Benton High School in 1996 and Illinois State University in 2000. After college, he worked for the family candy business for a few years and also worked in the golf industry. He then worked as a substitute teacher and coach for Zion-Benton High School. He was raised, baptized, and attended the Zion Church of Christ. His interests involved family fishing trips to Eagle Lake in Canada, golfing (in which he contributed to his CLC team receiving conference champions for 2 years) history, wood-crafting, and watching the Cubs and Packers. He was a devoted and loving uncle. He treasured his niece and nephews and embraced every moment with them. He shared with them his love of childhood nostalgia and made a lasting impact on their lives. Matt was preceded in death by his nephew, Julian Benjamin and his best friend, Mark Rymer. He is survived by his niece, Joslynn Benjamin (11); nephews, Jathan (7) and Jamison (4) Benjamin; sisters, Jaclynn (Julius) Benjamin, and Jennifer Booth; parents, Timothy and Jeanne Booth; and grandparents, Jim and Flora Booth, and Charles and Barbara Riipi. He also leaves behind many beloved cousins, friends and dearest friend Eric Byrd. Services will be held at Congdon’s Funeral Home on Friday, November 13, 2020 but will be private for family only due to the COVID pandemic.
