Obituary of Odell Jones

Odell Jones, 94, of Beach Park, passed away on November 5, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19 at Vista East Hospital in Waukegan. Odell was born on September 12, 1926, to Minnie and Edgar Jones in Iuka, MS. He married the love of his life, Mert (Myrtle) Brewer of Waukegan, IL, on August 1, 1952, in Osyka, MS. He owned and operated a Mobil station in Waukegan for 20+ years. His interests involved spending time with his family and friends, working in the yard, helping others and stock car racing. He was a devoted and loving husband for 68 years to his wife, Mert, incredible and giving dad to his daughter, Betty, caring father-in-law to his son-in-law, Gary, adoring grandpa to his granddaughter, Kim, fun play-partner to his great-grandson, Zander and best friend to Steve Smith. Surviving are his wife, Mert; daughter, Betty (Gary) Glander of Beach Park; granddaughter, Kim (Michael) Fantauzzi of Libertyville; great-grandson, Zander; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Sarah (Eldridge) Jones of Denham Springs, LA, Joyce (Edward) Jones of Osyka, MS, Virginia & Chuck George of Springboro, OH, Joann Brewer of Miamisburg, OH, Chet Brewer of Waukegan, IL, Helen Collins of Wadsworth, IL, Alicia & Bill Todd of Spring Grove, IL; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, William, Eldridge, Edward and Thurmond; five sisters, Elsie, Ruby, Opal, Edna, and Mabel, and his parents, Edgar and Minnie. Services will be private for the immediate family due to COVID-19.
