Obituary of Cecil V. Johnson

Cecil V. Johnson, 78, of Wadsworth, IL died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 26, 2020. Cecil was born March 25, 1942 in Hamilton, AL to Willie and Clodie Johnson. Cecil was a dedicated family man, avid Packers fan, and spirited entrepreneur. During his working years he was an integral part of the candy manufacturing industry. He retired from Goelitz Candy Company after over 20 years of service; he then started Johnson Starch Molding that he and his wife ran for the next 12 years together. He was featured in candy magazine for his impact and creativity improving the manufacturing process throughout the world. Cecil invented a ‘dry room’ that improved processes and reduced candy drying time to 2 hours. Not only did he install machinery, he also educated and trained others on them as well. Later in life you could find Cecil at the Zion McDonalds visiting with his family and friends sharing his stories and playfully giving everyone a hard time. Cecil will be missed by many and will be remembered by everyone his path had crossed. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Margaret Johnson, his children Debbie (Ed) Dickinson, Bill (Ivy) Lawson, Cindy (Dan) Hutchison, Rick Johnson, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, brother, Walt and sister, Wanda. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Following the service please join the family at Mt Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 N Kenosha Rd, Zion, IL 60099. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the family would be appreciated.
