Obituary of Edward John Folsom

Edward John Folsom of Zion, IL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 10, 2020 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Chicago, IL on December 5, 1947 to the late Edward and Betty (nee Waite) Folsom. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 27 years, Mary Folsom (nee Eaton), his children Acacia (Eric) Newcomb and grandchildren Olivia, Andrew and Jacob; Christine (Chris) Davis and grandchildren, Jarett, Kali, Bella, Kahlen, and Nico; Julie (Gordon) Smith and grandchildren Marissa, Colette, and Brooke; Tim Booth and grandchildren Jada and Ava; his sister Mary (Ken) Wheeler, Sister-in-laws; Carol (Jerry) Kozuch; Judy (Geoff) Blackwell; Linda Eaton; Jana Eaton; and Brother-in-law Jim Eaton; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law George and Thresia Eaton and three brothers-in-law Joe Eaton, David Eaton, and John Eaton. Ed moved from Chicago to Round Lake Illinois in the 1950s, where he lived through his high school years. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp proudly serving his country in the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart among other commendations for his service. Ed was a true patriot, a proud Marine, but above all else a happy and devoted husband, father and grandfather. People were drawn to Ed’s humor and humility. His passion for life and laughter has left its mark on all that had the pleasure of knowing him. Ed worked for 30 years at the United States Postal Service as a supervisor. After retirement from the Post Office, he worked for KHM Plastics for another 10 years. He loved to travel with his wife and spend time with his family and friends. Ed looked forward to the annual Marine Corp reunions, traveling to different parts of the U.S. reuniting with his brothers of the “Ghost Battalion. Semper Fi. Ed loved sports, all sports. In particular he was a life-long Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan. A memorial gathering will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road Zion, Illinois 60099. Interment with military honors will be held at a future date in early summer of 2021. Details will follow. Casual attire. Feel free to represent our Chicago Bears or wear your best Hawaiian shirt, both part of Ed’s signature look.
