Elvie Marie (Kujala) Lee, lifelong resident of Zion, Illinois died on Monday, August 30, at the age of 94 at Thrive of Lake County in Mundelein, IL.
Elvie was born on November 8, 1926, in Kenton, MI and was a member of New Song Ministries Baptist Church in Zion, Shé ministered in many churches and functions with her husband, Roger Owen Lee, her husband of 64 years, who died in 2012. Elvie held many different jobs from switchboard operator, a job in manufacturing, to nannying other people’s children, but her favorite was being a mother to her own eight children, all of whom she birthed at home.
Elvie is survived by seven of her children: Sharon (Wayne) Stoll of Wadsworth, IL; Roger Dale Lee of Chicago, IL; Wanda (Carlton) Smith of Winthrop Harbor, IL; Colleen (Dave) Skofstad of Antioch, IL; Nathan Lee of Zion, IL; Dawn (Tom) Schuth of Kenosha, WI: William (Maggie) Lee of San Diego, CA. Her son, Shannon Lee, preceded her in death in 2018. Elvie is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Paul Nelson, Tina Nelson, Keith Smith, Joe Smith, Michael Smith, Jon Smith, Amanda Skofstad, Karianne Nink, Morgan Bixler, Terrence Lee, and Amber Taylor. She also has19 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents John and Anna Kujala and her six siblings.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with a service immediately following at 6:00pm at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099. A private family interment will be held Wednesday morning.
