Walter Back, 84, died on Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL.
"Wally was born on October 9, 1921, in Ishpeming, MI. After graduating from Waukegan Township High School in 1939, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps; served 3 years in the United States Navy and worked for 34 years at Johnson Motors in Waukegan, retiring in 1975. He was owner-operator of Dalhaven Kennels in Zion where he bred, trained and showed championship dalmation dogs. He liked hunting, gardening and bowling.
Survivors include one daughter, (from his first marriage) Sandra Burns of Lewisburg, PA; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Richard W. Friend Sr. of Winthrop Harbor, IL; one nephew, Richard W. (Karen) Friend Jr. of Wadsworth, IL, and one niece Sheryle Lee (Charles) Welch of Tulsa, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Back, to whom he was married to for 50 years; his sister, Esther Friend, and his father and mother, Kalle and Senja Back..
There are no funeral services. Interment will be private at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
