Helen I Harris of Beach Park, Illinois passed away on October 10, 2021. Helen was born in Ogden Community in Baylor County, Texas on February 27, 1927. Helen was the only daughter of William Louis Norton and Thelma Jessie Norton. On September 17, 1946 she married Jimmie D. Harris in Seymour, Texas. They had 4 daughters born in Seymour and in 1958 she moved with her husband and children to Illinois. And resided there for the remainder of her life. Helen was employed by and retired from Abbott Laboratories. Helen had many creative talents, she made jewelry, embroidered quilt tops with an antique chicken scratch pattern. She taught her granddaughter and great granddaughter how to do this, passing on her talent to the next generations. Helen was also a very talented painter. Nothing gave her more pleasure than painting beautiful landscapes and giving them to family and friends. Left to cherish Helen's memory are her daughters, Vicki Scanlon, Jimmie Darlene (Gary) Kaiser, and Jan Shorty (Roger) Gregory. Grandchildren, Cheri Esperon, Kamron (Nick) Geiger, Jimmie (Megan) Gregory, Crystal Gregory, Kevin (Kristi) Kaiser, and Jimmy (Yvonne) Scanlon. Great-grandchildren, Nick and Tori Esperon, Reese and Noah Geiger, Addison, Andrew, Aubree, Austin and Autumn Kaiser, DJ Scanlon. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceeded in death by her husband of 63 yrs, Jimmie D Harris; her daughter, Shelly Ann Manning; and son-in-law Don Scanlon. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
