Obituary of Marcella Adolphs

On November 15, 2021, our earthly angel, Marcella Adolphs, nee Combs, of Beach Park, IL was given a pair of wings instead of lungs and flew to her eternal home in the sky. She was born on September 10, 1956, to Edward Combs and Virginia Combs, nee Holcombe, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL. She graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1975. She then went on to college and received her LPN from the College of Lake County in 1983, which is the profession where she found her forever calling. Marcy worked at hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing homes, and then landed at her forever home as a Nurse at Waukegan High School 21 years ago. She had just put in for her retirement this year after losing her mother. Marcy was a very active member at her church, Our Savior’s Lutheran in Zion, IL. When she was not spending her time at home or work, she made sure every crevice of the building was spotless and the nurse duties were fulfilled. She enjoyed taking care of her friends, family, and students, being very proud of her children’s accomplishments, and supporting those she loved in whatever way that meant. She loved seeing her friend Jackie perform with Bella Cain, line dancing with whoever would join her, attending concerts, and most importantly, spending time with her Grand dogs Buddy and Bella. Marcy married the love of her life on December 18th, 1987. She had her miracle baby on November 20th, 1991, and then her little boy on October 4th, 1993. Anyone that was blessed enough to know Marcy knows that she welcomed them into her family with open arms. If you were a friend to her children, you became one of her children. She opened her home to anyone that walked up to that front door. She leaves behind her husband of 33 years Scott Adolphs, her children Lea (Logan) and Alec Adolphs. Her siblings Everette Combs, Mary (Mark) Combs, Sandy Creamer, Maxine Billick, James (Dawn) Combs, Robert (Jessica) Combs, David Grubbs, and Carla (Dwayne) Karow. Her best friend and Godmother to her children, Mary (Dwayne) Verch, her in-laws Mary (Michael) Burns, and Jan Adolphs, her brother-in-law Marty Adolphs, aunts Lucille Childs and Peggy Lyons and MANY cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and students. She is living eternally with her mommy Virginia Grubbs, father Edwards Combs, stepfather Phil Grubbs, father-in-law Terry Adolphs, brother-in-law Mike Billick, nephew Vincent Branyik, very dear cousin Anita Levin, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL on November 26th from 5p-8p with a memorial service starting at 7p. Visitation will resume November 27th from 10a-11a at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and School, 1800 23rd St, Zion, IL. Funeral service will follow at 11a. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 18, 2021, with information to follow. Flowers can be purchased at Flowers With Love in Kenosha, WI by calling (262) 657-1118. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to her favorite organizations, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Alzheimer’s Association, or Autism Speaks.
