Virgie Carpenter, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at her residence in Zion, Illinois after a lengthy illness. She was born to the late James and Lucy Grubbs Sr. on July 31, 1937 in Arjay, Kentucky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Guy Carpenter Jr., four brothers – Elbert, Robert, Ray and James Grubbs, as well as her granddaughter Jessica Lynne Carpenter.
Virgie was employed at the Rolling Hills Campus for 41 years until her retirement in October of this year. She was a member of the Spirit of Life Pentecostal Church. She was very dedicated to her faith and enjoyed sharing her spiritual walk with Christ. Virgie was a solid prayer warrior and was an intercessor for many people. She relished her role of having been called to prayer ministry. Virgie was very family oriented. She loved sharing stories about the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her son – Charlie (Dottie) Carpenter of Elgin, South Carolina, her daughter Charlene (Wayne) Deschamp of Zion, Illinois. Eight Grandchildren – Christina (Leroy) Cozart, Heather (Brad) Kirby, Amy (Tyler) Lyerly, Sarah Kallies (Ryan), Ashley Freeman, Jason Freeman, Andrew Carpenter and Caroline Carpenter. Three Step-Grandchildren – Miranda (Jeff) Naftel, Adam (Mallory) Flora and Chad (Kayla) Flora. Seven Great Grandchildren – Kiley Nichols, Noah Kirby, Gavin Kallies, Savanna Kirby, Grayson Spencer, Yates Lyerly and Cora Lyerly. Five Step - Great Grandchildren – Natalie Naftel, Allison Naftel, Bryson Flora, Josiah Flora and Parker Flora.
Visitation will be held Thursday December 2, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Spirit of Life Pentecostal Church, 1222 Lorelei Drive, Zion, Illinois. Funeral Service be held Friday, December 3 at 11:00 am at the Spirit of Life Pentecostal Church with Sister Phyllis Miller Officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Zion, Illinois.
