Obituary of Jerry Pope

Jerry J. Pope, 84, of Beach Park, IL, passed away on December 5, 2021 in Zion, IL. He was born on November 30, 1937 in Pana, IL the son of Marvin and Rosamae (nee Whitacre) Pope. Jerry graduated from Waukegan High School class of 1957. He then served in the United States Army from 1958 - 1961 as a Corporal and received a good conduct medal. Jerry married Marie Pador on October 14, 1961 and together they raised four children. He was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church where he was a founding member of St. Vincent DePaul at OLH (currently Helping Hands). He retired from North Shore Gas Company in 1995. Jerry loved to golf, bowl, garden, read sci-fi books, and was an avid woodworker. He was a loving and charitable husband, father, and friend. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Marie; children, Richard Pope, Michael (Caryn) Pope, Deanna (Rich) Bailey, and Regina (Rob) Griffith; twelve grandchildren, Brianne, Trevor, Chad Pope; Jenna (Betka-Pope), Jacob, Kevin Pope; Amy (Maksudian), Kaitlyn, Erin, Mikayla Bailey; Amanda and Blake Griffith; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Pope (of Florida); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Marlene Pope and Curtis Pope. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL, with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12:00 noon, at the church. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made either to Helping Hands of Our Lady of Humility, or the Our Lady of Humility Church Food Pantry.
