Obituary of Dewey W Ballard

Dewey W. Ballard, 73, of Winthrop Harbor, IL died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at home. He was born on June 10, 1948, in Red Bay, Alabama and came to Zion, Illinois in the late 1960’s. Dewey met the love of his life, Diane Kay Geier and they were united in marriage on September 27, 1968. She passed on October 7, 2013. Dewey worked for the City of Waukegan for 37 years. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide Fan and Green Bay Packer fan. Survivors include his son, Joseph (Melissa) Ballard of Zion, Jennifer Ballard of Kenosha, WI, Two granddaughters, Kaileigh (Alek Pratt) Ballard and Jolia Ballard, Great-grandson, Asher Pratt; Two Sisters, Katherine Solberg of Belmont, and JoAnn Ray of Tremont, Ms.; Two Sister-In-Laws, Lynn Geier of Lake Villa, and Sharon Murphy of Burlington, WI; Nieces, Sheila (Skip) Braim, Kim (John) Valek, Kelley Frechette, and Marlo (Gary) Credille; Great-nieces, Lexi Frechette and Brianna (Shane) Wood. Dewey is also survived by his lifelong childhood friend, Jimmy McKinney. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Ballard and Ilene Lancaster; his brother, Larry Ballard; his Father and Mother-in-Law, Joseph and Dorothy Geier; his Brother-in-Laws, Doug Murphy and Paul Solberg. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. 60099. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Congdon Funeral Home beginning at 10:00a.m. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, please donate to American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or any other charity of your choice.
