Olma ‘Junior’ McCarley, 86, of Zion, IL passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 in Kenosha, WI.
Junior was born May 31, 1935 in Atwood, AL to parents William and Minda McCarley. He worked for American Motors for more than 30 years before retirement. Junior loved watching sports, especially the Chicago Bulls and his favorite, Alabama Crimson Tide football. He had a passion for farming and grew his own vegetables in his yard. He enjoyed visiting restaurants to eat and socialize with the many friends he made over the years. Everyone knew Junior for the great man, father, and grandfather he was. He always did for others and was ever-present for his grandchildren’s activities.
Junior is survived by his children, Danny (Linda) McCarley, Renee (Norman) Flood, Gina (Jeff) Knapp and Kristi (Joseph) Edwards; grandchildren, Sean (Amanda) McCarley, Nate McCarley, Kevin (Tammy) Smith, Erin Flood, Kyle (Tamara) Flood, Carley Knapp, Colton Knapp, Evan Edwards, Samuel Edwards and Abigail Edwards; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruthie Gunter; and special friends, Ova and Linda Brown, David and Elizabeth Archibald and John and Laura Crosswhite.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Len McCarley; granddaughter, Courtney Knapp; several brothers and sisters; and special friends, Wilson Morris and Lil and Ken Crosswhite.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Junior will be laid to rest in his home state of Alabama. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to the family have been suggested.
