Obituary of Jesus Vazquez

On February 8, 2022, Jesus Vazquez—or better known as Chuy, peacefully passed away. Chuy was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico on March 14, 1944 to Eulogio and Valentina (nee Sanchez) Vazquez. He was the oldest of 9 brothers and sisters, a diligent entrepreneur, a respected bowler, and above all a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Chuy is survived by his wife, Graciela Vazquez; four children, Grace (John) Robinson, Julie (Armando) Oseguera, Jesus (Nancy Flores) Vazquez Jr. and Victor (Madelyne nee Rosario) Vazquez. His joy was being surrounded by his grandchildren, Gerard, Tony (Daisy Lara), Diana (Pablo Ytuarte), Frankie, Amarylis, John, Gisselle; and his great-grandchildren, Tony, Manny, Isla, Julian, PJ, Benny and Tresa; and there is an eighth great grandchild on the way. Chuy married Graciela in 1963 then later settled their growing family in Waukegan, Illinois, where Jesus would go on to make a name for himself. In 1993, after working most of his life in the eyecare industry Chuy became the owner of Sunset Optical. He was well-respected in the Lake County community for his expertise and craftmanship. He took pride in his ability to repair eyewear and customers appreciated his friendly and welcoming personality and he fostered many relationships and business connections during his time. He was a regular at the Nip N’ Sip and Sunset Bowl where he played in bowling leagues with his friends. Chuy ran Sunset Optical for 22 years, closing the doors in 2017 to retire. His legacy and kindness lives on through his family and those he touched. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and the community he called home. Respecting Chuy’s wishes his family will be honoring him with a celebration of his life in the near future.
