Obituary of Dorothy Ash

Dorothy 'Dot' Leona Ash, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 18, 2022 in Zion, IL. Dot was born on April 17, 1939 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Russell) Goralski. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pleasant Prairie, WI. Dorothy resided in Summerdale, Alabama, where she made many friends. While Dot lived in Alabama she got the name "Grand Marshall" for her love and celebration of Mardi Gras. She had over thirty costumes, and was the life of the party. Dot was a very caring, compassionate, and faithful person which led her to attend the College of Lake County, and was part of the first graduating nursing class of CLC. She worked third shift in the intensive care unit to be home for her children in the afternoon. In June of 1972, she lost her loving husband to bone cancer which left her to be a widow at 33 and to raise 4 children between the ages of 5-13. She cared for her family, and always put her family's needs first. Dot was very talented and crafty, she would sew, needle point, and took art classes. She created many beautiful paintings and Christmas ornaments for her family to cherish. Through out the trials and tribulations of life, she always maintained her positive attitude, caring for others and her strong faith in God. She will always be remembered as an inspiration to everyone she met and as the strength, heart and soul of her family. Dot is survived by her children, George (Cindy) H. Woltz Jr., Deborah (Charley) Butts, Cheryl (John) Hall, Michelle (Bob) Battisfore Phillips; grandchildren, Nicole (Jon) Crawford, Tina (Chris) Beilmann, Kim (Kyle) Multz, Brad (Mary) Battisfore, Chad (Katy) Battisfore, Melissa (Eddie) Kreye, Tyron (Christine) Sanders, Leona Woltz, Christine Truster, Terrielynn (Michael) Albert; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother Arthur (Laurie) Goralski; ; several nieces, a nephew, cousins and her camping family in Summerdale, Alabama. Dot was preceded in death by her first husband George H. Woltz Sr.; second husband Ronald Ash; and her parents. Please join us Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. for a Memorial Service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4311 104th Street, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Schlader Building at Village Park, 2700 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor, IL 60096.
