Jane O. Stried

Jane Olive Stried, 91, a strong woman of faith passed away April 1, 2022 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL. Tired, she was ready to join her beloved husband, the love of her life, William Stried; her parents, Dave and Myrtle Petersen; her brother, Robert Petersen; in-laws, Gladstone and Mildred Stried ; Donna and Bill Sayle; son-in-law, Gary Hawkins and so many other relatives and friends she cherished during the long and meaningful life she lived. A long time family business owner of Park Furniture in Winthrop Harbor, Jane also served her community volunteering and holding leadership positions in many civic organizations. She was especially proud to serve on the planning committee which brought the North Point Marina to our Winthrop Harbor shores. Jane loved to travel and she and Bill traveled the world. If she could not go herself, she enjoyed planning trips for people when she was an agent for Zion’s Advance Travel. An avid reader, hostess, game player, gardener, golfer, organizer, public speaker – Jane enjoyed life. Born in Kenosha, WI, Jane attended Kenosha public schools where she frequently auditioned in school plays and loved to perform. She later attended the University of WI – Whitewater. Her favorite Kenosha landmark was The Spot Drive- In where she car-hopped and in 1949 met and served a young, handsome man who swept her off her feet. Together they made a life. Jane and Bill’s legacy leaves 4 children – Bill (Donna), Robert (Kathy), Debbie, and Jim (Mary); 4 grandchildren – Jennifer, Alexandria, Christopher, Alyssa and 5 great grandchildren - Ashley, Briana, Juliette, Isla and Brayden. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Betty Stried of St. Paul, MN and Haider Reza, foreign exchange student/son of Afghanistan. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, 2001 80th St, Kenosha, WI 53143, where she was a long time member. Visitation will be held at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL 60099 on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 10:00 am. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. A private internment will follow the services.
