Josephine Peterson, 83, of Sun City, AZ, formerly of Zion, IL, died on Friday, October 20, 2006, at home in Beach Park.
She was born November 7, 1922,in Zion, and attended Zion Parochial Schools. Josephine was a graduate of the first class at Zion-Benton Township High School in 1940. She then graduated from Illinois Normal State Teachers College (Illinois State University) in 1943 and married Robert Peterson on June 28, 1946, at the Christian Catholic Church in Zion. Josephine was a member of Christ Community Church in Zion where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and participated in the Passion Play. She taught child evangelism with the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Zion and was a teacher in the Zion Elementary School System for years. She was a long time member of the Ladies of the Round Table in Zion and enjoyed particularly participating in the ("DD'S) Sewing Bee. A high point in Josephine's life was a mission trip to Israel, South Africa and South America. Josephine was a loving wife, and doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She absolutely loved children and was a faithful teacher to many of them.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Bob; three children, Delwin (Nancy) Peterson of Beach Park, IL, Darwin (Nancy) Peterson of McHenry, IL, and Josephine (John) Huber of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Peterson, Christopher, Kyle and Dena Peterson, Amy Marks, Dan Scher, Susie Martin, and Jolene and Jeff Huber; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Wilfred J. (Barbara) Brownlow Jr. of Ohio and Arizona, and a sister, Gail (Ken) Meyers of Lindenhurst, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred J. and Ruth Maltby Brownlow and grandson, Sean Morehead.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at
10:30 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, from 5:00-8:00 p.m at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Memorial Donations to the Camp Zion Ministry or ZEMA would be appreciated.
