Doris Jean Hamlet of Zion, IL passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 5, 2022, Chicago, Illinois. Doris was the middle child born to Alma James Hutch and Annie Mae Peoples on August 13, 1941 in Cedar Grove, Tennessee. Doris was a faithful Christian who truly loved the Lord. Doris was a very active member of the Brothers After the Order of Jesus, Orthodox church.
As a young woman, Doris obtained her Bachelor's degree while participating as a teacher in a Headstart Program in Zion, Illinois. Prior to being a supporting and loving housewife for more than a decade, she was a private duty home healthcare worker for three years. Doris fulfilled her dream as the owner of Doris' Bridal for eight years where she encouraged the union of marriage and love. She successfully managed The Community Thrift Store for fifteen years where she continuously offered positions and opportunities to those within her community. Doris exuded pride and competence as a reading teacher at Shiloh Elementary and LakeView school. One of her proudest moments consisted of attaining her certification as a Foster Care parent.
Doris will be missed and remembered by four daughters, Norma Echevarria (Br. Doel), Bridget Erganian, Courtney Hamlet, Weynoka Johnson (Eric Sr.), sister, Mattie Jewel Hutch, sister-in-law, Debra (Debbie) Hutch, nephew, Thomas Hutch Jr., nieces, Sandra Jean Henry (Charles), Rosalyn "Rene" Hampton, aunt, Mattie Ruth Peoples-Luter, a host of grandchildren, Zipporah Hayes (Narai), John Erganian V, Tanaya Loonsfoot, Raleisha Hamlet, Kristopher Young, Kayla Young, Doel Echevarria Jr., Nicholas Echevarria, Zhamari Johnson, Kache' Hamlet, Eric Johnson Jr., Stephanie Jones.
Doris Hamlet was dearly loved and will be remembered by loved ones and great grandchildren, Jair Hayes, Nya Rae Hayes, Avion Williams, Dahvion Williams, Riccarion Williams, Jayden Echevarria, Jordan Echevarria, Tekoah Hamlet, Tekhana Hamlet, Omen Person. Doris was adored and loved by her sisters and brothers in the Lord, members of Brothers After the Order of Jesus, Orthodox church, godson, Narai Hayes, goddaughters, Kia Humphreys and Shelly Wroten. She will be remembered by the staff and patients at Continental Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she shared many special and precious moments.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae and Alma James Hutch, brother, Thomas Brent Hutch (Debbie), son, Darrell Whiteside, son, Edcur "Tyke" Hamlet Jr., nephew, Ronnie Brooks, grandson, John Erganian IV, godson, Carlton Williams.

Memorial visitation will take place Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL, 2:30 to 4:00 PM. Repass will take place immediately following visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Lakehurst Banquets (Sundance), 300 Lakehurst Road, Waukegan, IL.
