Obituary of Dorothy Mae Richardson

Dorothy Mae (Needles) Richardson, 89, passed away August 23, 2022. She was born on February 27, 1933  in Mauston, WI to Donald and Velna Needles. 
 
They moved to Zion, IL around 1938, and Dorothy was baptized at United Methodist Church of Zion. She attended Elmwood and Lakeview schools and graduated from Zion-Benton High School in 1951. She married Jerome Peters on September 8, 1951, together they had five children. During this time they bought the Zion Yellow Cab until 1975. Jerome passed away in 1969, and Dorothy remarried in 1975 to John Richardson. In 1985 they retired to Okeechobee, Florida from 1985 to 1997. John passed away in 2000. Dorothy spent her retirement visiting her children in Illinois, and Wisconsin. She always said she was truly blessed with a loving family and they were the joy of her life. In 2016 she entered Hillcrest Nursing Center after a series of surgeries, and spent the rest of her days there. Dorothy enjoyed playing cribbage, bingo, and fishing. She was known as the "Card Shark" since she was always good with playing with a deck of cards. 
 
She is survived by her children; Cheryl (Phil) Ann Eddings, Deborah Lynn Smith, Judith (Michael) Mae Gibson, Tonia (Paul) Sue Sawertailo, Donald (Angela) Steven Peters; step-children, Leslie Wisnesha, Pam Chiakas; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. 
 
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion, IL 60099. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL.  Donations in Dorothy's Memory can be made to Hillcrest Nursing Center,1740 Circuit Drive, Round Lake Beach, IL 60073.
