Obituary of Beverly Bogdala

Beverly J. (Dyke) Bogdala, aged 88, died November 21, 2022 at Aurora Medical Center.

 

She was born May 25, 1934 to Emil and Bernice (Shorman) Dyke at St. Therese Hospital, Waukegan, IL and was a life-long Waukegan resident.

 

Surviving are her loving children:  Henry, Jr. (Linda), Kevin (Ruby), Julia (Jerome) Shields, and Jeffrey Bogdala; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers Jim (Kathy) Dyke, Ronald (Melody) Baylor, and sisters along with sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.  Beverly was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry “Hank” Bogdala, Sr. who she remained married to for 62 years, her parents, Emil and Bernice Dyke, brother Robert Baylor and her beloved daughter Cynthia Jean Bogdala-Lyle who passed on December 13, 1993.

 

Beverly retired from First Midwest Bank Corporation in 1988.  Previously, Beverly operated Bertrand’s Restaurant of Bertrand’s Bowling Lanes, Waukegan from 1964-1966.  She also operated the Bonnie Brook Golf Course Restaurant and Lounge from 1976-1977 and Captain Bev’s Food and Snack Shop at Waukegan’s North Beach at the Lakefront.

 

Beverly worked with many civic and charitable organizations through the years including the Lake County Special Needs Children’s Society, Fr. Cull and the Friends of the Hungry, American Cancer Society, and Lake County Heart Fund.  She also worked with the Little Fort Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, rang the bell for the Salvation Army and was a community activist all her adult life.  She was a working member of the Jack Benny Statue Committee, was Liaison to Seniors for State Representative Eddie Washington, member of the Waukegan Historical Society, Waukegan Main Street and PTO member at Washington Elementary School.  Beverly was a member of St. Anastasia Church having served as a Eucharistic Minister, Minister of Care for the sick at Vista East Hospital, member of St. Anastasia Women’s Club, former member of American Business Women’s Association, AARP, Waukegan Township Senior Citizen’s Committee and a cancer survivor.

 

Services for Beverly will be private for immediate family only.  Arrangements are being handled by Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL.   In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to either the American Cancer Society or COPD Foundation.
