Joan Edna (Odom) Biastock,92, passed into her eternal Heavenly Home on March 3, 2023 in Hoffman Estates, IL. She was born on August 21, 1930 in Chicago, IL. She was a graduate of Zion Benton High School, class of 1948. Joan married Bob on February 3, 1950 at Grace Missionary Church in Zion, IL. She was a faithful member of Grace Missionary Church; serving as a church secretary, Christian Education Secretary and a leader of preschool children.
Joan worked at Zion Benton Township high school as the Secretary for the Social Studies Department. She served many years as a legal secretary to Attorney Lawrence D. Inglis. In 1988 she began serving as Administrative assistant to Chief Justice Thomas J. Moran of the Illinois Supreme Court, until his retirement in 1992. Following her service to the court, Joan spent the remaining years of her career at the North Point Marina. Joan and Bob retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas for 20 years; and became members of the First Christian Church, serving there as well. To those who knew her, she was a true prayer warrior, good loyal friend, and influencer as well as an encourager and example to others. Those she worked with knew her as a good friend, helpful and supportive. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she will always be remembered as “Nonny.”
Joan is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Jim) Galvin; grandchildren, James (Kimberly) Galvin III, Lindsay (Ryan) Taylor; two great-grandchildren Evelyn Galvin, Jacksen Taylor; Sister-in-law Shirley Odom, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years; daughter Patricia Day Biastock; parents Johanna and Daniel Odom; siblings Daniel Odom, Ruth Cruz, Raymond Odom, and many more loved ones.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099.
