Obituary of Judith Richards

Judith (Judi) Maureen Richards of Zion, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

Judi was born in Zion, Illinois on January 7, 1940 to J. Robert and Edna A. (Bush) Griffith. A week after graduating from Zion Benton Township High School, she married Charles N. Richards (Norm) on June 13, 1958. Norm and Judi were happily married for 53 years.

A loving wife and mother, Judi filled her time helping on their Kenosha Road farm, working at Dairy Queen, and driving a Beach Park School District school bus for 19 years. Judi was a lifetime member of Christ Community Church of Zion, Illinois and served many years driving the bus for Circle Center Preschool and senior adult outings, as well as countless trips back and forth to Camp Zion where she volunteered in a variety of roles. Though she found her joy in serving, a cold Pepsi upon her arrival to Camp and some ice-cream later in the day was a welcomed thank you.

Judi is survived by her brother Ray (Robin) Griffith and sister Marne Griffith. She leaves behind her son Charles N. (Annette) Richards, daughter Renee M. (Fred) Broome, son Terry A. (Kathy) Richards, and son Gary D. (Kim) Richards. She was blessed with her grandchildren Trey (Jessica) Broome, Rachael Broome, Caleb Broome, Dominick Richards, Zachary Richards, Danielle (Matthew) Frisque, Kirsten (John) Langley, Kaitlyn Richards, Anna (Luke) Willkomm, Sara (Austen) Marshall, and Carolyn Richards; great-grandchildren Daniel, Audrey, Ronen and Jane Langley, Charlie and Gennie Marshall, and very soon to join, Roland Broome.

Judi was preceded in death by her loving husband Norm, her brother Robert (Pat) Griffith, parents J.Robert Griffith and Edna A. (Bush) Griffith Sumonja and stepfather Dewey Sumonja.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL.  Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. to follow the visitation. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
